Good Reads | Jemma Kidd Make-Up Masterclass | KP FUSION
A new year is upon us, and typical, that means new wardrobe, new outlook, new you. For most women, the first few weeks of the year are dedicated to cleaning out their closet and makeup drawer. If you’re ready to update your look (doesn’t have to be anything drastic, just a few additional looks to play around with), check out Jemma Kidd’s Make-Up Masterclass: Beauty Bible of Professional Techniques and Wearable Looks. A leading international makeup artist with her own school in London, Kidd’s book offers expert advice in a fun accessible way. Each look is broken down with “how to” steps, and you’ll also learn insider tips (Kidd is a former model and fashion stylist), and skin care routines to help you put your best face forward. I love beauty books but sometimes the images and looks created are a bit dated. I’m a fan of Jemma’s JK line sold in Target ( I have her mini signature shadow palette in my makeup bag now) , so I had a blast experimenting with the looks (there’s a smokey eye that’s created with a pretty emerald/grayish color that looks gorgeous on olive skin). She still offers the standard looks that all women should have in their arsenal (natural day look, smokey eye, bronze beauty, etc), but because she believes in letting your natural beauty shine through, they’re all fresh and modern, without being over the top. “Millions of women throughout the world wear make-up, but few of them have been taught how to apply it” was Kidd’s reasoning for founding her school and ultimately creating this beauty guide. Whether you are 12 and getting your first lipgloss and blush or a seasoned makeup vet looking for new tricks to try, you’re sure to have fun and learn something from this book. I’ve worked on a few shoots in the last few month and have used a few as a reference. This one was by far my favorite. What’s your favorite beauty book? City Style | Bobby E. Update & Beauty Tip!
