Name: Bella Q
Homebase: Sacramento, California
Blog: The Citizen Rosebud
Month/Year Blog Launched: November 2008
How did you get into blogging?
I got into blogging years ago when I was trying to launch an eco-friendly blog. I’ve always been a writer but never wanted to go into journalism. I like the medium of blogging because you can still be personal, but not too personal. There are a number of blogs I write for, but The Citizen Rosebud has been my strongest project so far.
What has been the best thing about it? Hardest?
The BEST thing about blogging has been the community and the friends I’ve made doing this. I now have the joy of knowing many amazing souls around the world who share my interests in vintage and ethical shopping that I’ve met because of my blog.
What do you do when you aren’t working on your blog?
Freelance writing and selling vintage. Blogging has become an obsession so most things I do has something to do with blogging. Lately I took some time off and decided I need to add more balance to my life and explore offline interests.
Dream Job:
Maker of things from recycled materials, and professional blogger
Describe your look in five words:
Eclectic, Individual, Quirky, Classic, Original
Who/what influences your style?
I am influenced by vintage fashions, street style and the stuff that swims around in my imagination.
Who are some of your favorite designers?
Muccia Prada, Vivienne Westwood, Yves Saint Laurent, Marc Jacobs, Kris Laskey of Butt Ugly (a local Sacramento designer).
Where are some of your favorite places to shop?
Hands down thrift and vintage shops. But Target is my guilty pleasure!
What’s one item in your wardrobe that you can’t live without?
My vintage 1960’s cheetah print coat. I live in it. I love in it.
What’s a classic item that every woman should own?
I think every woman should own a silk scarf. A whole lot of silk scarves. They are a great way to express yourself.
Which trend(s) were you most excited to try this season?
This season I plan on rocking black lace, acid brights and summer time plaid.
Fashion on Film: Which movies inspire you?
One of my favorite movies for the fashion is an old ’60’s French movie called Le Samourai. I also love old film noir flicks, often times just for the killer outfits.
Three magazines that you MUST read monthly:
I read so many blogs, and listen to podcasts that I don’t read many magazines anymore. I suppose American Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar are still on my coffee table however.
Three items in your makeup bag:
Blacker than black mascara, glitter eye liner and blood red lipstick. Oh and Burt’s Beeswax lipbalm.
Favorite color of lipstick/lipgloss:
Clear, red, and orangey red.
Favorite color of nail polish:
I don’t wear polish on my hands but I do enjoy a lively red on the footsies.
Words of (style) wisdom:
My favorite quote is by writer Gore Vidal: “style is knowing who you are, what you want to say and not giving a damn.”
The most important question of all: cookies, cupcakes, or ice cream?
Oh that is easy: I am an ice cream socialist so ICE CREAM!
Thanks Bella!
