Now that you’ve spring cleaned your wardrobe & defined your style, now it’s time for the fun part:
But before you head out and go all wild and crazy in the stores, take the time to make a list of items that you need to add to your closet. Yes you can still go on your spontaneous shopping sprees but not just yet; now’s the time for purposeful shopping. See, once you purchase the (stylish) things you need, when you do browse and grab something on the fly, you’ll already know what it’ll pair well with, thereby maximizing your wardrobe in the long run. You (hopefully) won’t waste time on things you really don’t need – you can almost treat it like a hunting game – everything you buy will be a prize!
Now, depending on your budget and what you already own, your list may be long or super short. It doesn’t matter; there are tons of places to shop at various price points. Being stylish on a budget is not as hard as people think! That being said, warmer weather means it’s times to lighten up on your look: fresh bright colors, softer, lighter fabrics, and new statement pieces. To use as a guide, here are a few items that are currently on my list for Spring Essentials.
Line & Dot Katie Blazer, $89
Pim & Larkin Colette Blazer, $79
Blazer in a pop of color
Blazers go with pretty much everything. It’s still cool enough to wear one during the day, and in a fun hue, it really brightens up your wardrobe.
Classic Striped Top, Forever 21, $6.80
A classic. Wear with denim (regular blue and colored denim), khakis, skirts, whatever. You can even get a little adventurous and pair it with a floral pattern.
Multi-Abstract Leaf Dress, Dorothy Perkins, $59
Belted High-Low Shirtdress, Forever 21, $27.80
A patterned dress is always in style (picture this with a beige blazer and tan wedges), and a bright color in the on trend high/low hem is a little more daring.
Tinley Road Neon Beaded Top, $49
Uber simple way to add a little drama to your wardrobe. A bright color makes things pop, and built in bling makes accessorizing simpler.
Mango Red Skinnies, Asos, $41.16
Lavender Skinnies, Miss Selfridge, $65
Red is a must-have – it works surprisingly well as a neutral piece and pairs well with florals and prints(remember the striped tee?), and lavender gets you in on the pastel trend without being over the top.
Shandee Platform Wedge, Banana Republic, $120
Tan wedges with a corkscrew heel. Spring and Summer staple. What more can I say?
Boundary & Co Bambi Blouse, $69
Riviera Silk Blouse, Banana Republic, $70
Printed or classic white work well casual and workwear; play with lengths and cut for a fit that suits your style.
Twist Wrap Midi Skirt, Oasis, $36
Sometimes a maxi skirt can be too over-powering on your frame, but a slimmer cut midi length shows just enough leg, and the wrap/tulip style gives a nice silhoutte. A nice alternative to your classic A-line.
Social Satchel, Jessica Simpson, $98
Large enough to fit all of my junk, but still stylish enough to take with me pretty much everywhere. A neutral shade lightens things up for Spring.
Once I cross these things off of my list, anything else I buy will be for fun.
