Prepping to return to school is more than just getting new pens, paper, and a sweet backpack. For busy moms on the go, it also signals a time to say farewell to the lazy days of summer and hello to a more structured and slightly hectic schedule. You’re already on a time constraint as is, but if you’re a working, multi-hyphened mom like actress/singer/designer Monet Mazur (Blow, Just Married, NCIS: Los Angeles, and my fave, Monster-In-Law), and also love fashion, the last thing you want to think about is what you’re going to wear! Monet teamed up with OpenSky (a pretty cool new shopping platform that recruited 80 tastemakers in food, style, healthy living, kids and home to offer members a different way to shop and discover new things), and curated a collection of stylish finds to help you get out of the door in a flash. She also graciously answered a few questions about her inspiration behind the collection, what trends she’s looking forward to this Fall, and what’s in her makeup bag! How did you become involved with OpenSky? I had been looking for a vehicle to segway into more aspects of fashion and design and when they approached me it seemed liked the right time and the perfect fit. What was the inspiration behind the current collection? A way to simplify and streamline your wardrobe so that it’s all almost utilitarian. I like clothes that all go together and are classic and timeless pieces; that way when I have to get dressed in 5 minutes I can grab anything and it goes! I really like all the leather, I have some vintage leather shorts that I look forward to wearing. A lot of gold (also one of my faves), like these pink rings! And whatever Rag & Bone and Isabel Marant does is sure to set the fashion trends for that season. I always like to get a boot and a sweater from them each Fall. Trends have to evolve, move forward not back! Being that you’re a musician, actress, designer, and mother, how does that influence your personal style? My style is greatly influenced by music and what I listen to! Being a mother has never changed my style; well maybe I wear less sheer stuff, hahaha. And when I am taken with a character that I’ve seen in a film or I myself have played, I tend to portray that in my personal life as well. What’s your go to outfit?
