Good Eats | Saturday Brunch at Ecco on Overton Park | KP FUSION
Weekends are made for brunch, so I decided to make a (late) pit stop last Saturday at Ecco on Overton Park, a fairly new restaurant in the Evergreen Historic District. Located in the old Fresh Slices building (they opened in 2014), Sabine Bachmann’s restaurant has a distinctively Parisian bistro feel to it; the quaint space begs for you to both bring a book and sip coffee while you people watch while alternatively having an intimate conversation with your beau over a glass of wine. It was drizzling when I arrived and right after the brunch rush, so I pretty much had the place to myself (which I love! Makes taking pictures of your food feel less weird, lol). I was able to grab a table near a window. Stepping out of my brunch comfort zone, I decided to try the Chorizo Hash ($8.50), made with potatoes, peppers, tomatoes, pancetta and scallions, and topped with 2 eggs. It’s a rich, spicy dish that’s full of flavor. While hash is usually labelled as a breakfast/brunch dish, I would totally learn how to make it and serve it for dinner with fresh bread and wine (they have an option of chorizo gravy + biscuits so I’ll keep that in mind as well). It’s filling but not heavy, so you won’t feel sluggish after eating. I also ordered a Strawberries and Cream Crepe ($5) for a little sweetness and to say I underestimated the size because of the price is an understatement. It was HUGE! Incredibly fresh, the cream was a great compliment to the strawberries, which had a natural sweetness opposed to being saturated with sugar. I couldn’t finish the whole thing, it was so big. They offer mimosas but I decided to enjoy a cup of coffee instead. For the amount of food that was served, it was less than $18! The brunch is incredibly affordable and is served from 10a-2p (kitchen closes 30 minutes prior to restaurant). Upon my next visit (because you know I’ll be back), I’m going to go with a friend so that we can sample a few things. You can see the full Brunch menu here.
