Snapshots // Instax Mini 8 Fun

Breaking myself away from work + blogging to have a little fun has been harder than ever, but creating balance is a must in order to stay creative. My coworker Reagan had the bright idea to go out to an art show + drinks one Friday night after work and capture it all on Polaroids and it was honestly one of the best nights I’ve had in a loooong time.

Our mutual friend Cities Aviv was having a show at TOPS Gallery, an intimate, underground art gallery in downtown Memphis, so we decided to be a little extra and glam it up. I found this simple yet cool long sleeve pleated dress from H&M that gave me 60s vibes, so I went through my old stylists stash and found some fun statement earrings, nude mules and finished it all with wavy hair and a Twiggy inspired cut crease.

I knew my look was a little dramatic (polaroid flash will wash you out so gotta amp it up), but I felt like a bad ass goddess, lol. When you love everything you’re wearing and your hair acts juuuuuust right (seriously, it will NOT wave up like it did that night) you have a little extra oomph in the way that you walk (and people take notice).

We experienced momentary weirdness during the show (small gatherings are NOT the place for mosh pushing, people) but we saw a plethora of old friends and other creatives that night, and the Fuji Instax Mini 8 made capturing those moments so fun. Because the size of the picture is about the same as a credit card, you have to get a little creative to get a good shot, lol. We took a ton of pictures and poured over them after the show while getting drinks (Reagan has more photos over on her blog). Sure we could’ve just used our phones, but you create a different vibe when you take pictures with a polaroid camera, so we’re planning to have another outing with it. I can’t wait til it starts to get chilly here and the trees get bare; Memphis has some pretty interesting architecture downtown, so  imagine the type of pictures we can create.
