Self-care practices are nothing new, but finding spaces where women can go to explore true wellness services (so that it’s about more than just a bubble bath or face mask) is needed more than ever. A few weeks back, my friend Andrea invited a group of us to experience #selfcare with Sundara Wellness, a new wellness center in Midtown geared specifically towards women, and for me personally, it was the perfect ending to an otherwise hectic day.
The center offers acupuncture, pelvic health physical therapy, massage therapy, nutrition & dietetics, Pilates, yoga, & women’s primary care services, and during our visit, we were able to experience mini Pilates + yoga breakout sessions. We also talked with some of the specialists about their nutrition & dietetics services, and some of the primary care services that members come for.
Eating healthy does not mean your diet has to be bland, so they provided us with nutritious bites to get a sense of what we could eat when opting for a healthier lifestyle.
One of the specialists also gave us an acupuncture demo. Andrea volunteered, and after showing us a few points to help with stress, she also did an acupuncture facelift, which can help reduce the appearance of wrinkles, eye bags + fine lines while also firming and tightening muscles and skin.
I’ve never done acupuncture before but I’ve heard about the benefits from friends and want to try it.
Once we finished the demos, we took a quick tour of the facility. The center has a yoga studio, 10 private exam rooms, a retail shop and a Pilates studio. I really like that their focus is to help people develop holistic wellness plans with a combination of Eastern + Western medicine and practices. You don’t have to choose either or when it comes to figuring out what you need: the goal is to get you to have a more proactive approach to your overall your health care. One of their mantras is “Self-care isn’t selfish” and I wholeheartedly agree.
The facility is beautiful, the staff is welcoming, and we all felt rejuvenated after our night of self care. Thanks for hosting us!
